A Day in the Life
Shift: First, but will need flexibility to support 24/7 operations on call
Location: Northridge, CA
This role will support Diabetes manufacturing, R&D and commercial teams in EHS compliance programs and reduce liability. Compliance areas include supporting central hazardous waste collection, wastewater permitting and sampling, LOTO, Job Hazard Analyses, environmental inspections, Haz Comm programs, PPE program, SDS management, Ergonomics, air emission data gathering, and training personnel across Northridge.
The EHS Specialist has general knowledge of and provides for the development and implementation of programs and systems to comply with federal, state and local EHS regulations and Company policies, strategies, initiatives and goals at our site in Northridge, California. Major areas of emphasis include:
- Implement and monitor compliance with federal and state EHS regulations and Medtronic EHS standards.
- Identifies potential or actual areas of non-compliance through audits or inspections. Ensures appropriate corrective action and preventive action is taken to address non-compliance issues.
- Has good communication skills, helps to develop and provides EHS training programs for employees in areas, such as, regulated EHS training, hazardous material safety and handling, emergency response, waste management, and life safety.
- Establish, perform and report metrics pertinent to EHS activities
- Obtains and maintains Health & Safety records and required Environmental permits, licenses and documents.
- Manages EHS job functions for duties such as job safety analyses/risk assessments, EHS training, workplace incident analyses, industrial hygiene evaluations, EHS inspections, environmental regulatory reporting, data collection / analysis and internal audits.
- Conducts ergonomic risk assessments and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Evaluates new hazardous materials to ensure compliance in EHS requirements and facility procedures.
- Conducts EHS reviews for new product development, facility modification, product manufacturing modifications and new equipment/machinery installations. Facilitates EHS reviews for product transfer to/from other facilities.
- Responsible for emergency and spill response plans, and disaster preparedness plans, materials and equipment. Oversees the facility emergency response team to ensure appropriate training, practices drills and equipment are in a ready-state. Primary EHS contact for facility EHS emergencies.
- Responsible for the monitoring of employee exposure to chemical and other toxic substances and physical hazards, including Industrial Hygiene (IH) sampling and coordinating the activities with Industrial Hygienists, and other safety consultants as required.
- Co-chairs EHS Committee and ensures ongoing operation of EHS Committee.
- Ensures effective and sustainable EHS systems, programs and processes are in place.
- Partner with and educate business functions to resolve EHS problems and assure that employee safety, environmental sustainable practices and compliance with EHS regulations are supported.
- Uses judgment in data analysis to develop and design solutions to resolve EHS regulatory and technical issues.
- Establishes systems for the monitoring of workplace safety risks and environmental impacts through the analysis of work processes, materials, equipment and the work habits of employees.
Must Have:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in a technical field (chemistry, biology, environmental, safety, etc.) with training in core Environmental, Health and Safety disciplines and 2 years of experience OR a Master of Science Degree in Environmental, Health, Industrial Safety (or related technical field) with 0 years of experience
Nice to Have:
- Experience in environmental, health and safety regulatory compliance (EPA, RWQCB, DTSC, AQMD, LACFD, CERs, Cal/OSHA)
- Fundamental understanding of chemistry and technical terms
- Good technical and project management skills
- Ability to make decisions and work independently

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, reach, stoop/squat, and crouch
- Will require working indoors and outdoors
- Work environment includes the office, the production areas, mechanical rooms, and outside
- Requires safely working with chemicals and strong acids and bases

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$72,000.00 - $108,000.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
