A Day in the Life
At Medtronic we lead the market in Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) solutions, developing innovative technologies for patients across the Cardiac Pacing, Defibrillation and Patient Monitoring therapy spaces. Our Galway based product development teams focus primarily on the creation of catheter technologies that deliver these therapies to patients, ensuring the procedure is safe and reliable for patients and physicians.
As a Senior R&D Engineer within the Released Product Engineering Team, you will be tasked with supporting the cross functional technical team and leading projects in all aspects of commercial device engineering.

A Day in The Life Of:
- Experienced engineer to utilize advanced engineering principles and methodologies to solve complex technical challenges in existing commercial products.
- Drive the development and implementation of innovative solutions for released products to enhance performance and customer satisfaction
- Conduct thorough root cause analysis on product complaints and defects, ensuring timely identification and resolution of underlying issues.
- Effectively represent Medtronic while interacting with physicians to distil their needs into product requirements and concepts.
- Participate in technical innovation across the department.
- Identify and mitigate technological risks throughout the design process.
- Apply understanding of anatomy & physiology with engineering knowledge in materials and processes to produce working designs.
- Interface effectively and build relationships with team members, other staff and key technology and component suppliers, both locally and globally.
- Contribute to resolution technical obstacles with existing designs and support portfolio sustaining activities.
- Contribute to generation of intellectual property.
- Delegate/direct work of experienced engineers.
- Provide coaching/guidance to less experienced team members.
Key Skills & Experience
- Level 8 Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering or related discipline with minimum 4 years relevant direct engineering experience within medical device environment.
- Dynamic team player and can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional teams and across organizational boundaries and take appropriate actions when problems occur.
- Medical device product development experience desirable
- Technical experience in DOE (Design of Experiments), Six Sigma, DFM etc.
- Experience in interfacing with physicians and reducing feedback to device concepts.
